Epson Epson Artisan 810

Epson stylus photo 810, missing colours

This has probably came up before but I could not find it.
I have had this printer for nearly a year and when it prints it prints beautifully but for some reason from time to time there are missing colours usually the blues. A nozzle clean (1 or 2 times) cures the problem. The printer is not often used, maybe once or twice a week for a couple of pages or pictures. I don't use Epson cartridges as they are way to expensive and have tried different substitutes.
Could someone tell me if the colour missing problem is due to using cheaper cartridges, clogging nozzles due to low use or a combination of both or maybe some other cause.
Cleaning the nozzles is a pain as it uses a lot of ink. As I said apart from this the printer functions great, it's connected to an imac running os 10.2.6.

Thank you

Steven
STEVEN: As an "Epson Authorized Service Dealer", there's only so much information and help that I can legally give. There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer. You may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM [parts problem]. I can tell you that most of the problems people have are caused by something they did, or did not do and are not always the printers fault...SOME EXAMPLES: Refilling your own cartridges, having them refilled, buying third party ink [generic ink, non Epson ink], no regular cleaning and servicing and power problems. No matter what anyone says, all blacks, or colors are not the same and any non-epson ink will normally cause problems sooner or later. Epsons use a completely different printhead inking system than most other brands of printers and correct Epson ink formulation is vital. Printer manufacters do not make available their ink formulation and in most cases, the formulation is patented. Any difference in the ink formulation can clog the small printhead nozzles or damage other critical components. Epson has many different formulas of just its black ink, for all the different models of ink jet style printers...REMEMBER ITS NOT ALWAYS THE PRINTERS FAULT WHEN YOU USE NON EPSON INKS. YOU DID SAVE MONEY BUYING THOSE CHEEPER CARTRIDGES, SO THAT IS SOME CONSOLATION...Good Luck! Denny Conway

Thanks for the reply, I will see how these cartridges go and when they run out maybe try Epson to see the difference. It may be false economy to use 'cheaper' cartridges if they have to be replaced more often because of cleaning.

Thanks again
