Hp HP LaserJet 4L

HP 4L won't print

This printer was working fine. Suddenly it no longer prints. When first powered up, the ready light is on and everything looks fine. Try to do a self test and a blank page comes out. All lights come on and stay on. Push blue button and 1st and 3rd lights stay on(labelled error and data).

This is a beam detect error. It means the laser diode is not being seen by the dc controller. Needs a new scanner assy. I've got a few in stock, let me know if you want one and I'll get you a price and instructions for replacement. Pretty easy procedure to get the cover off and replace it. Less than 10 minutes.

All right. Give me a price on one and let me know if you have any return policy.

Before you buy a new laser scanner try this. The 4L has a cooling fan that blows across the scanner. The scanner wires enter the top and are covered with tape. Sometimes this tape does not seal the opening totally and dust gets in and interferes with the beam detect and you get a malfunction. Trouble is there are very sensitive parts inside the scanner. I've taken q tips and carefully cleaned the mirrors and lenses inside. You must not leave any strands of cotton behind or you'll have problems. Seal it up and give it a try. If it still fails get a new laser scanner.
