iMac and laserwriter

Can I attach a laserwriter ls300 to an iMac? If so, is it dependable, costly? Thank you.

The LaserWriter Select 300 is a serial based Quickdraw printer. The LS310 is Serial/parallel, and the LS360 is AppleTalk/Serial/Parallel. So the LS300 you have would not work on an iMac. I have a doohickey from Asante that converts the EtherNet on an iMac to AppleTalk, but unfortunately your LS300 lacks even that. And the fact the LS300 is not Postscript cripples it further.

If you can find a cheap LS360 motherboard, you can upgrade your printer and with the converter, make it work. Otherwise, you really need to find a USB or better yet, a printer with a TenBaseT EtherNet port on it.

Thank you for the informative advice Raymond. Just so happens that in my vast collection of rare printer parts I have a LS 360 logic board. I was keeping it in case one ever went bad, but I could be induced to sell it. I've sold my personal printer more times than I can count. Have a new one almost every month. - unknown
I have a brand new Select series printer in my warehouse for parts, but can't remember which one it is. it was trashed in shipping, but many parts are still good.

I am just the opposite on my personal printer. I have about 50-60 printers to fix and sell, but I had a LW Pro 630 for several years, and recently replaced it with a LW 16/600 PS. only because I got the 16/600 for real cheap... And it's not really for sale. In my opinion, the LaserWriter Pro series are great printers.
