HP IIP, error 55, then error 79-08ef
HP LaserJet IIp gives error 55 on power up, then you can clear it and it gives you 79-08ef. Have tried removing font cartridge. Still get error. Error occurs even when you don't have it attached to a computer. Help!
It's possible you have 2 problems. The error 55 is usually a bad dc controller. The 79 is usually a bad formatter board. It is possible that the formatter is responsible for both of your problems. I'd try that first. It's kind of hard to troubleshoot something like this without parts. I've got a few of each in the shop if you need parts.
I had an additional thought right after I hit the send key. Take the top off (2 screws in front and 2 in back). Pull off the i/o plate in rear (3screws) Take the formatter board board off (2 small screws in front and 2 in the rear, one is in the little hole in the top left rear of the printer). Unplug the power from the board and remove the whole assembly. At the back of the board with all the connectors (dc controller) you'll see a little push button. This is the engine test. Hit it after the printer warms up and see if anything happens. You should get a page with lines on it. If you don't, I'd go for the dc controller, possibly also a formatter if you still have the 79 error. If you do, you'll probably need a formatter.
