Epson Epson Stylus Photo R2400

Epson R2400

I have just purchased a "as new" Epson r2400
The printer was claimed to be unused apart from some test prints
and it certainly looks as if that's all its had, unfortunately on turning on, the carriage moved to the left and got most of the way there and got stuck and a loud screeching sound came out and the top two lights on the panel started flashing.
On another post somebody mentions a carriage lock lever, I have been unable to find such a lever and having owned a few r2400's cant recall seeing such a thing, Is there a carriage lock lever on the r2400 and if so where is it, otherwise any suggestions on what the problem is.
As this printer does indeed look like new I would rather try and repair it than send it back.
